Data Governance Strategy

I have worked under both old and new paradigms. My take; bring the best of both these worlds into an engagement, and keep organization’s success as a foremost goal. To me, Data Governance strategy involves creating self-sustaining DG operations which takes minimal time from your organizational data citizens, while getting them and the leadership maximum value!

At the outset, it is exciting to notice that Data Governance (DG) has taken a center stage in many Enterprises today. Gone are the days when it was merely about assigning ownerships, creating DGOs/ DGCs, and driving to some DQ metrics. While this is very important, the new age of DG adds multiple more dimensions like new business use cases, need for agility, non-invasiveness and above all, the new age DG technology.

So, we must carve out those portions that can be (or need to be) more agile and leave the others to tried and tested legacy DG patterns. Data Governance strategy should include knowing which of the patterns to use; when to tend more towards the robust framework and when to lean on agility.
